Our Story
After many years in the hospitality industry, navigating his way from the front-of-house chaos to the controlled madness of the kitchen, GDC Urban Farming’s founder, Garth Dylan Concar, has always had a passion for food. That path eventually led him to the garden, where he recognized the need for people to return to the principles of true education – one of them being the ability to grow your own food.
At GDC Urban Farming, we believe in empowering people to start their journey toward self-sustainability, even if all they have is a small balcony to begin with. Our motto is simple: start where you are, with what you have, doing what you can. Growing food is a lifelong adventure, and we’re here to help you take that first step.
One of our greatest passions is sharing this knowledge with the younger generation. The battle with screen time is real, and we believe the best way to help kids unplug is to show them the magic of growing their own food. Officially launched in 2024 on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, GDC Urban Farming is on a mission to see the majority of South Africans growing their own food at home, in schools, at work, and in community gardens – by 2028.

At GDC Urban Farming, we design and install customizable raised garden beds to suit your space & taste. Each bed comes with premium soil, healthy seedlings, protective covers, delivery, and installation, and we also offer extras such as maintenance, pest control, irrigation, soil top-ups, and practical guidance.
